INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University (WVSU) will sponsor a Health Expo on Thursday, April 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the James C. Wilson University Union.
The event is free and open to the public and will include a resource fair focusing on health services available in the community. Patrick Reynolds, the grandson of tobacco company founder R.J. Reynolds, will deliver the keynote presentation entitled “Tobacco Wars, The Battle for a Smoke Free Society” at 12:30 p.m. in room 134 of the University Union.
Reynolds, who is the executive director of the Foundation for a Smokefree America, has spoken out publicly against the cigarette industry in Congress after his own father died from smoking.
Additional presentations will include Naloxone (also known as Narcan) training, healthy cooking demonstrations, Zumba and Yoga demonstrations, archery and fitness testing. Health screenings will also be available.
The Health Expo is a collaborative effort between WVSU Counseling and Accessibility Services, WVSU Cultural Activities, WVSU Department of Health and Human Performance, WVSU College of Professional Studies, Tobacco Free Yellow Jackets – Breathe Easy Grant Initiative, and Family Care.
