West Virginia State University to Host 4-H Summer Camp Series

INSTITUTE, W.Va. — West Virginia State University (WVSU) Extension Service will host a series of free 4-H day camp opportunities this summer for young people focused on topics such as agriculture, neuroscience, cybersecurity and engineering.

“These camps are designed to provide young people with practical experience in a variety of STEM and agriculture areas through innovative, hands-on learning opportunities,” said Sara Price, program leader for 4-H Youth Development with WVSU Extension Service. “From field trips to immersive activities, participants will acquire skills they can use today while learning about career opportunities as they plan for the future.”

Camp themes and dates are as follows.

  • Country Roads Engineering Camp: June 16-27, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For 7th-9th graders. Participants will learn about real-world engineering challenges through interactive projects, experiments and field trips. Application deadline: May 5.
  • Mind Marvel Neuroscience Camp: July 7-11, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For 7th-10th graders. Participants will learn about brain anatomy, synaptic networks and various brain functions, including pain perception, addiction effects, brain injury and recovery. Application deadline: April 30.
  • CyberDefenders Summer Camp: July 14-18, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For 7th-10th graders. Participants will acquire essential skills to protect data, electronic systems and networks against cyberattack. Application deadline: May 9.
  • Roboroot Explorers Camp: July 25, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For 3rd-8th graders. Participants will dive into the exciting world of agriculture and STEM through hands-on activities that blend farming with technology while engaging in fun robotics and creative problem-solving. Application deadline June 12.
