INSTITUTE, W.Va. – Two West Virginia State University student groups brought home a total of seven awards at the recent Crystal Awards Gala hosted by the Public Relations Society of America West Virginia Chapter.
The WVSU Charles R. Byrd Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) won six Crystal Awards, while the National Broadcasting Society – Alpha Epsilon Rho won one Crystal Award.
The PRSSA student group’s six awards all involved work done to promote the film “37 Fallen,” which tells the stories of the lives of those West Virginians who died in the War on Terror through interviews with family members, military unit members and military historians.
The group received first place Crystal Awards for poster design, for social media and for the media kit it produced to promote “37 Fallen.” The PRSSA students received Honorable Mention Crystal Awards in the categories of long form video, special events campaign (seven days or less) and in invitations.
The National Broadcasting Society students received a first place Crystal Award for local charity for a video commercial the group produced in support of “Scareview Elementary,” an annual haunted house in St. Albans that raises funds to support the West Side Volunteer Fire Department.
The annual Crystal Awards Gala took place Wednesday, June 17, at the Culture Center on the West Virginia State Capitol Grounds.
A crowd of nearly 150 chapter members, public relations professionals and their guests attended the event, which honored outstanding public relations campaigns and projects undertaken in 2014.
