INSTITUTE, W.Va. – A selection of artwork produced by West Virginia State University (WVSU) students and faculty will be on display at the Robert C. Byrd United States Courthouse in Charleston through October.
“WVSU Selected Works 2018: A curated selection of artworks by WVSU Art Department students and faculty” opened Friday, Aug. 3.
“I’m excited. Art students at WVSU routinely do outstanding work, and this exhibit will attest to that,” said Josh Martin, chair of the WVSU Art Department.
The exhibit marks the beginning of the WVSU Art Department’s permanent collection, and represents artwork done by faculty and students over the last 10 years.
“Ever since I have been here at State, I have been amazed at the high quality of the student work displayed at the senior exhibits. And I am so happy, so thrilled, that people in Charleston will be able to experience the vibrant work that these students have produced,” said Dr. Rob Wallace, interim dean of the College of Arts and Humanities at WVSU.
Department of Art faculty members whose work is featured in the exhibit are Paula Clendenin, Molly Erlandson, Zach Fitchner, Josh Martin and Rediun Ovrebo.
WVSU students whose work is featured in the exhibit are Kelsey Decker, Kaylee Dillon, Sarah Driggs, Wesley Eary, Sharron Ford, Heather Gibson, Rachel Long, Jessica McClanahan, Daniel Morton, Christopher Moynahan, Michael Parsley, Kaci Rogers, Thomas Traeshawn and Anthony Young.
A reception is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 17, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the courthouse, with brief talks from the featured artists beginning at 4:45 p.m.
Once the exhibit closes at the courthouse it will be used to start a permanent collection on the WVSU campus that will be displayed in the Della Brown Taylor Hardman Gallery in the Davis Fine Arts Building on a rotating basis.
