West Virginia State University Fall Commencement set for Saturday, Dec. 14

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University (WVSU) will host its fall commencement on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, beginning at 10 a.m. in the D. Stephen and Diane H. Walker Convocation Center.

The ceremony will recognize the university’s approximately 180 summer and fall 2024 graduates. 

The commencement speaker is Alicia Knapp, who serves as President and CEO of BHE Renewables, a Berkshire Hathaway Energy business that develops, owns and operates renewable energy generation facilities in 11 U.S. states, including West Virginia. Knapp has been with the Berkshire Hathaway Energy family of companies since 2001.

She began her career in risk management at MidAmerican Energy Company and continued to work in energy trading for 10 years, prior to moving to BHE Renewables and taking on roles in real estate and renewable energy project development from 2011 to 2017. She returned to MidAmerican Energy Company in 2017 and held executive roles in gas delivery and renewable generation, before returning to BHE Renewables as president and CEO in 2020. 

Knapp earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Iowa. She currently serves on the board of directors for The Kraft Heinz Company and for the American Clean Power Association.

WVSU holds commencement ceremonies in December and May of each year.
