Sponsored by the West Virginia Department of Highways, the free day camp will showcase learning and career opportunities within the transportation industry through hands-on science activities and field trips.
“There are so many opportunities within the transportation sector that kids may not think about as they are planning for their future,” said WVSU 4-H Extension Agent Tabitha Surface. “With NSTI, participants will learn about and discover these opportunities through fun, educational activities and by visiting transportation-related sites throughout the region.”
The camp includes field trips to such sites as the Cass Scenic Railroad State Park in Cass, West Virginia, and the Center of Science and Industry in Columbus, Ohio.
The camp is free to attend and includes transportation and admission to field trip locations, as well as food. Drop-off will begin at 7:30 a.m. each day, with pick-up varying based on field trip scheduling. Interested campers must have a minimum GPA of 2.0, completed pre-algebra or will be qualified for enrolment in pre-algebra in the fall 2019 school year, and submit a written statement discussing their interest in attending NSTI.
