INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The West Virginia State University College of Arts and Humanities and College of Professional Studies will host a presentation on the opioid crisis in the state and nation on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 12:30 p.m. in room 122 of Wallace Hall on the school’s Institute campus.
Chad Napier, prevention and education coordinator for Appalachia HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas), will discuss “Drug Trends and Awareness” with a focus on the opioid crisis. The presentation is free and open to the public.
In addition, the WVSU Office of Counseling and Accessibility Services (CAS) will provide a brief presentation on how University faculty and staff can make referrals to CAS.
Napier retired from the Charleston Police Department in 2015 with 20 years of service. The majority of his career he was involved with the Metro Drug Unit conducting or supervising drug investigations. Since retiring, Napier has spent the majority of his time presenting drug awareness and prevention programs in schools throughout the region.
The Appalachia HIDTA’s mission is to use a multi-disciplinary approach to deal with the ongoing threats to public health and safety, particularly as it regards prescription drug diversion, the emerging threat of heroin, as well as the continued threats of marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine and synthetic drugs.
