INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The College of Business and Social Sciences at West Virginia State University (WVSU) will hold its fall convocation Monday, Sept. 22 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. in the P. Ahmed Williams Auditorium on the second floor of Ferrell Hall.
The theme of the convocation is “Globalization: Is the World Still Flat?” and will feature Sarah Halstead, economic development specialist with WVSU Extension Service, as the keynote speaker. The event is free and open to the public.
Halstead will be giving a talk entitled “Just Crazy Enough,” which she said is about, “the importance of curiosity, audacity, crazy ideas and leadership and I’ll talk about what it takes to make change happen…anywhere, especially when you’re a penniless underdog. I’m likely to invite the audience to lend their business savvy and interest in social science to help with formalizing research in community and economic transformation. We need the help of economists, social scientists, business, education and management experts to assist with research.”
In addition to her work at WVSU, in 2007 Halstead co-founded Create West Virginia and founded two non-profit organizations — W.Va. GreenWorks and the U.S. Green Building Council-W.Va. Chapter.
WVSU Assistant Professor of History Michael E. Workman will convene the convocation.
The College of Business and Social Sciences is one of the four colleges that comprise WVSU and features undergraduate majors in business administration, economics, history, political science, psychology, sociology and philosophy. It also features the first energy management concentration in a bachelor’s degree in business administration in the state of West Virginia.
