West Virginia State University 4-H Hosts Little Free Library Installation as Part of Youth Day Camp
INSTITUTE, W.Va. — West Virginia State University (WVSU) 4-H recently hosted its first youth day camp of the summer, which featured the installation of a Little Free Library at Curtis Complex on WVSU’s campus. This installation, a significant part of WVSU 4-H’s civic engagement project, is the first of its kind on site.
The Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to build community, inspire readers and expand book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led Little Free Library book-exchange boxes. The installation of the Little Free Library at Curtis Complex aligns with the organization’s vision of having a Little Free Library in every community and a book for every reader. This initiative promotes 24/7 book access, fosters the establishment of new Little Free Libraries and grants them to high-need areas.
“We are thrilled to be a part of such an impactful project,” said WVSU 4-H Program Leader Sara Price. “The installation of the Little Free Library is a meaningful addition to our camp activities, showcasing the importance of community engagement and access to literature.”
The camp featured activities covering all four 4-H pillars: STEM, Healthy Living, Agriculture and Civic Engagement. The addition of the Little Free Library stands out as a physical element that will be in place for years to come, serving as a hub for book sharing and community connectivity.
