INSTITUTE, W.Va. — The U.S. Navy’s Ceremonial Guard Drill Team and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technicians will be on the campus of West Virginia State University (WVSU), Tuesday, Oct. 8, for demonstrations as part of Navy Week activities in the area.
The drill team and EOD demonstrations will take place beginning at 12:15 p.m. in the Wilson University Union and are free and open to the public.
Established in 1931, the ceremonial guard is the official ceremonial unit of the Navy and performs ceremonial drill demonstrations displaying the precision and professionalism of the Navy.
The EOD provides demonstrations, including bomb-diffusing robots, allowing those of all ages to explore STEM activities with the Navy.
The demonstrations are taking place on the WVSU campus as part of Navy Week in Charleston, Oct. 7-13. Navy Weeks are the service’s signature outreach program and allow the Navy to build and strengthen ties to the community.
Charleston Navy Week is scheduled to feature: senior Navy leadership, sailors from USS West Virginia, sailors from locally assigned units in the community, sailors from the oldest warship afloat, USS Constitution, and sailors from the U.S. Naval Academy.
