INSTITUTE, W.Va. — Trina Sweeney has been named the Interim Vice President for Student Affairs at West Virginia State University (WVSU), effective Oct. 26, 2020.
In this new role, Sweeney will serve as the chief administrator for all student life-related priorities in the campus strategic planning process, and ensure that career services, mentoring programs, personal counseling, residence life, campus life and related student service programs are fully operative, managed and supportive of students.
Sweeney most recently served as WVSU’s Director of Campus Life for Student Life and Engagement where she developed and implemented New Student Orientation programs, served as director of the Wilson University Union and worked closely with campus staff and faculty to make sure all campus clubs and organizations act responsibility and work effectively.
“This new position underscores the importance we at West Virginia State University are placing on providing a complete and meaningful on-campus experience for our students, and Trina will be great at leading this effort. Our students already know her and what she has done to elevate the student life experience here, and this new role will take that to another level,” said WVSU President Dr. Nicole Pride.
Sweeney also served as director of adult and commuter student services, as an adjunct faculty member in the College of Arts & Humanities and as a Title IX investigator.
Sweeney previously served WVSU as interim director of admissions, associate director of admissions and as an admissions assistant.
She has served on various campus committees including the Admissions Committee, the Honors Program Committee, the Homecoming Committee, President’s Enrollment Committee and Welcome Days Committee, to name a few.
Sweeney has a bachelor’s degree in communications from WVSU and a master’s degree in strategic leadership from Mountain State University.
