INSTITUTE, W.Va.The second season of West Virginia State University’s (WVSU) Creators Program workshop series continues with “The 10 Commandments for Creative Success” at the WVSU Economic Development Center (EDC) Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 7:15 to 9 p.m. Noted photographer Steve Payne will speak as part of the program’s new Creators Talk Lecture Series.
“The Creators Program workshops cover all aspects of creating for mass media and art,” said Danny Boyd, a WVSU communications professor and artist in residence at the WVSU EDC. “The new Creator Talks Lecture Series is a one-shot, informative and inspirational lecture, not in the traditional workshop mode, that will focus on fresh, new thoughts from cutting-edge professionals on creating in today’s quickly changing world.”
Payne will discuss the essential elements required for success in the increasingly competitive creative world, from the basic building blocks to long-term success formulas.
Payne is a noted photographer with more than 25 years experience. His commercial photography has been featured in hundreds of publications nationwide, and his fine art photography resides in corporate and private collections throughout the globe. Prior to forming Steve Payne Photography, he served as chief photographer for the West Virginia Department of Commerce and the Department of Culture & History.
“I have spent my life in the arts, providing fine photography to industry, advertising agencies and private individuals,” said Payne. “I have always loved my work, the people I work with, and the final works we produce together. I have been blessed to find my place of service in the world.”
The Creators Program launched last year as a series of community workshops focusing on skills and knowledge essential to creating for mass media and art. WVSU partners with the Arts Council of Kanawha Valley and the West Virginia Film Office on the series.
Workshops are designed for people of all skill levels, including students and others interested in expanding their creative endeavors. Other workshops scheduled for the fall include Independent Publishing (Oct. 19), Producing 101 (Nov. 2) and Composing for New Media 101 (Nov. 16).
There is a $10 fee to attend the workshop, payable at the door, and registration is requested. To register, visit www.digiso.org and click on “The Creators Program” tab.
The WVSU EDC is located at 1506 Kanawha Blvd. W. in Charleston.
