INSTITUTE, W.Va. – A new era in West Virginia State University (WVSU) athletics will launch in September with the premiere of “The Yellow Jacket Nation” television show on Saturday, Sept. 2.
Broadcasting on WVAH-Fox 11, “The Yellow Jacket Nation” will highlight the athletic department of WVSU and its student-athletes, coaches, game events, game results, game highlights, statistics, as well as other noteworthy events in the life of the University.
Well-known West Virginia sports broadcaster and writer Frank Giardina will serve as host.
“This show will provide a broader audience more detailed information about not only our sports programs, but also the inspiring stories of our student-athletes,” said WVSU President Anthony L. Jenkins. “We are excited to bring this sports programming to our fans who are loyal members of the Yellow Jacket Nation.”
The 30-minute program will air weekly for 23 weeks throughout the fall and winter months.
“This really is a new era for our student-athletes, and we are excited to tell their stories through ‘The Yellow Jacket Nation,'” said WVSU Athletic Director Nathan Burton. “The excitement that has been building the past few years on campus with the completion of our world class athletic facilities with the Walker Convocation Center, and the Monroe Athletic Complex, it has never been a more exciting time to be a Yellow Jacket.”
WVSU is working with the advertising and marketing firm, The Barnes Agency, in the development of “The Yellow Jacket Nation.”
The show will debut on the day that the Yellow Jacket football team takes on rival University of Charleston at noon at Lakin Field at Dickerson stadium in Institute. General admission tickets will be available at the gate for $8.
