New Categories Announced for WVSU Student Film Festival

INSTITUTE, W.Va.West Virginia State University (WVSU) is accepting submissions for its second annual Student Film and Video Festival, open to current high school and WVSU students. Entries must be postmarked by Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013.
“This event is our way of showcasing the talent of students here at State and encouraging local high school students to develop their creative talent and share their work to entertain and inspire others,” said Dr. Ali Ziyati, festival co-director and associate professor of Communications and Media Studies at WVSU.
“We have delineated the categories this year by form, creating four additional categories to accommodate diverse media,” added Sam Holdren, festival co-director and instructor of Communications and Media Studies at WVSU. “There really is something for everyone.”
College film categories include narrative, non-fiction, promotional, abstract and smart videos. Undergraduate and graduate student films must have been produced since August 2012 during active enrollment at WVSU. Productions should be between 30 seconds and 15 minutes in length and must be received as a video file in a standard uncompressed format along with a $5 entry fee per submission. The Student Film and Video Festival is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Davis Fine Arts Theater at WVSU.
