Learn the Business of Film at WVSU Creators Program Workshop

INSTITUTE, W.Va. -West Virginia State University’s (WVSU) Creators Program workshop series continues with a free “Business of Film” seminar at the WVSU Economic Development Center (EDC) Tuesday, Feb. 16, from 7:15 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The event is presented by West Virginia Film Office Director Pam Haynes and staff and will provide an overview of the Film Office, with a focus on West Virginia’s tax credit program.
Film crew personnel, film and video production companies, emerging filmmakers, students and others with an interest in local filmmaking are invited to attend.
Topics include the role of the West Virginia Film Office and its services, such as how to find work in the state, the filmmakers’ code of responsibility, searching and securing locations for filming and film permits.
The West Virginia Film Office supports commerce by recruiting productions to conduct business in the state. The office also administers the West Virginia Film Industry Investment Act, a competitive economic development grant tool used to recruit film industry business.
The Creators Program launched in 2012 as a series of community workshops for all levels focusing on skills and knowledge essential to creating for mass media and art. WVSU partners with the West Virginia Economic Development Council, the West Virginia Film Office and WVSU Cultural Activities on the series.
