INSTITUTE, W.Va. – Learn the techniques of hydroponic and aeroponic plant production at a free workshop hosted by West Virginia State University Extension Service Thursday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Barnett Center in Huntington.
In traditional agricultural production, soil is utilized as the growing medium. In hydroponic production, a nutrient solution provides the needed nutrition plants require and allows for a larger quantity of plants to be grown in a smaller space. Participants will get hands-on education on nutrient film technique and experience with aeroponic and hydroponic growing systems.
“We want participants to learn the basics of hydroponics, as well as the benefits,” said Melissa Stewart, WVSU extension specialist for Agriculture & Natural Resources. “From saving space to reducing weeds, insects, disease and pesticides, we’ll cover all areas of using a variety of production systems.”
To register for the free workshop, contact Extension Agent Brad Cochran at (304) 541-3301 or . The workshop is made possible by a Specialty Crop Block Grant from the West Virginia Department of Agriculture.
The Barnett Center is located at 1524 10 Ave. in Huntington.
