INSTITUTE, W.Va. — Dwight Sanchez has been named Vice President for Enrollment Management for West Virginia State University (WVSU), effective Oct. 26, 2020.
In this role, Sanchez will serve as the University’s chief enrollment officer with responsibility for developing a comprehensive enrollment management plan that fosters an integrative recruitment and admission effort consistent with the university’s strategic goals and direction.
Sanchez most recently served as the vice president for enrollment management and chief enrollment officer for Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia. In that role for fall 2020, Sanchez and his team led an enrollment effort that saw an increase of new students by 24 percent and total undergraduate enrollment by 7 percent over 2019 enrollment numbers.
“Dwight’s proven track record in enrollment management will be invaluable as we broaden our efforts to increase student recruitment not only in West Virginia, but throughout the country,” said WVSU President Dr. Nicole Pride.
Sanchez previously served as the associate vice president for enrollment management and chief enrollment officer for the University System of the District of Columbia from 2014-2019. During his time, new student enrollment, total graduate enrollment and full-time enrollment all posted increases, while total retention also increased by 25 percent.
Sanchez has also served as the dean of enrollment management and chief enrollment officer for Clark Atlanta University (CAU) and the senior associate director for admissions for Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU). Both institutions saw increases in new student yield rates and overall enrollment. At JCSU, overall enrollment increased by 16 percent and student diversity increased by 48 percent. At CAU, he and his team saw an overall enrollment increase by 1.2 percent and 26 percent in new students during his tenure.
Sanchez has appeared as a panelist at numerous conferences on the subject of enrollment management, and authored papers on specific topics around recruitment strategies, retention efforts, and leadership in enrollment management.
Sanchez has bachelor’s degrees in Spanish and English from Johnson C. Smith University, and certificates in enrollment management leadership and from the Harvard Summer Institute on college admissions.
