INSTITUTE, W.Va. — The Charleston Chamber Orchestra, which is comprised of West Virginia State University (WVSU) students and faculty as well as members of the community, has been invited to perform in Vienna next summer at the “Beethoven 250” Festival.
The Festival, which celebrates the 250 anniversary of the famous composer’s birth, will take place June 29 through July 7, 2020, and will include performances in such famous venues as the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the iconic Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna.
“This presents a truly once in a lifetime opportunity for the Charleston Chamber Orchestra to be invited to participate in the anniversary celebration of the birth of Ludwig Van Beethoven in the very venues where his greatest works were performed,” said Dr. Scott Woodard, WVSU associate provost and associate vice president for academic affairs and conductor of the Charleston Chamber Orchestra. “For the WVSU students who comprise a large portion of the Orchestra, this is an unparalleled experiential learning opportunity.”
The invitation to perform in Vienna follows a busy performing schedule in 2018-2019 for the Orchestra. On Feb. 18, 2019, the Orchestra took the stage at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Capital Orchestra Festival in Washington, D.C.
On June 22, 2018, the Orchestra took the stage at Carnegie Hall in New York for the Viennese Master’s Orchestra Invitational.
The Orchestra formed in 2015 and their first concert was given at WVSU’s Fannin S. Belcher Theater in December 2015.
