Charles “Chuck” Jones Elected Chair of West Virginia State University Board of Governors

INSTITUTE, W.Va. — Charles E. “Chuck” Jones Jr. has been elected to serve as the chair of the West Virginia State University (WVSU) Board of Governors for the fiscal year that began July 1, 2019.
“I am extremely honored to serve on the WVSU Board of Governors,” said Jones, a McDowell County native. “Together, we will continue striving to perpetuate an atmosphere of excellence that provides our students the best opportunity for a successful future.”
Jones retired in 2014 after serving for more than 20 years as the Executive Director of the West Virginia Board of Risk and Insurance Management. He is an active member on the Thomas Health System Board, as well as the state Board of Pharmacy.
Jones’ wife, Minnie H. Jones, their son and daughter are all WVSU alumni.
Mark Kelley has been elected to serve as vice chair of the WVSU Board of Governors for the coming year. Kelley is a member of the Charleston law firm of Ray, Winton and Kelley, PLLC.
Kelley is a 1988 graduate of WVSU and a 1991 graduate of the West Virginia University College of Law. Since graduation from the University, Kelley has maintained close ties to the school including serving as chair of the WVSU Foundation.
Charleston attorney Katherine L. “Kitty” Dooley has been elected secretary for the WVSU Board of Governors. A native of Fairmont, Dooley is a practicing attorney and the principal of the Charleston law firm The Dooley Law Firm, P.L.L.C.
The new officers constitute the Board of Governors Executive Committee. The 12-member Board of Governors provides oversight to the University and consists of nine members appointed by the governor of West Virginia, as well as representatives of the school’s faculty, students and staff.
