Acclaimed Nature Photographer to Speak at West Virginia State Thursday

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – Noted nature photographer Lewis Kemper will share stories from his acclaimed career at the annual West Virginia State University (WVSU) Media Summit Thursday, April 11, at 4 p.m. in the Davis Hall Auditorium.
Named by Canon U.S.A., Inc. as one of the 50 best photographers in the world, Kemper will discuss his more than 30-year career photographing the natural beauty of America and its national parks. The event is free and open to the public.
“Every person who has an interest in photography or art should take this opportunity to see the work of this professional artist and to hear what he puts into it,” said Todd Griffith, WVSU’s director of photographic services. “Learning from a professional will inspire you and increase your appreciation of the work.”
Kemper has taught photography for many organizations including the Palm Beach Photographic Centre, Santa Fe Workshops, Light Photographic Workshops and the Aspen Workshops. He is the author of “The Yosemite Photographer’s Handbook” and “The Yellowstone Photographer’s Handbook.”
His work has been published in numerous books including publications by The Sierra Club, The National Geographic Society, Little and Brown, APA Insight Guides, Prentice Hall and Hyperion Books. His work has appeared in magazines that include Backpacker, Women’s Sports and Fitness, The Walking Magazine, Sierra, National Wildlife and National Geographic Traveler.
The Media Summit is hosted by the WVSU Department of Communications, the Charleston Camera Club, and two WVSU student organizations – Women in Communications and National Broadcasting Society-Alpha Epsilon Rho. “We are honored to have Mr. Kemper visit WVSU,” said Bill Woodrum, associate dean and associate director of WVSU Extension Service and an avid amateur photographer. “He’ll be sharing how he became a nature photographer and stories from his long, successful career.”
