Dr. Ali Alsinayyid

Assistant Professor of Computer Science | Director, Cybersecurity Innovation Center

Dr. Ali Al-Sinayyid is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Cybersecurity Innovation Center (CIC) at West Virginia State University (WVSU). He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and has more than 17 years of combined experience in academia and industry.His work focuses on critical infrastructure cybersecurity, operational technology and industrial control systems (OT/ICS/SCADA), CyberAI, Internet of Things security, cybersecurity education, workforce development, and applied research. He leads hands-on cybersecurity initiatives that connect academic instruction with realistic infrastructure environments, community service, research, and industry engagement.Dr. Al-Sinayyid led the development of WVSU’s four-year Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity, approved in 2025, with General Cybersecurity and Agricultural Cybersecurity options. WVSU is the only university in West Virginia offering an Agricultural Cybersecurity option. He also directs the WVSU Google Cybersecurity Clinic, supports student research and competition teams, and has served as PI or Co-PI on multimillion-dollar cybersecurity, research, workforce, and infrastructure initiatives.

  • Google Cybersecurity Clinic: Principal Investigator for the $1 million Google.org-supported clinic. The clinic opened in March 2025 as the first cybersecurity clinic of its type in West Virginia and provides no-cost cybersecurity support while giving students applied experience.
