Trey Jones Named WVSU Assistant Vice President for University Advancement 

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – Trey Jones has been named as West Virginia State University’s (WVSU) Assistant Vice President for University Advancement and Vice President of the WVSU Foundation.

A native of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Jones joined WVSU in July 2021, as the Executive Director of Corporation and Foundation Relations. In this role, Jones managed corporate and foundation engagement strategies with the approach of philanthropic, workforce development, and research partnerships. 

In his new role, Jones will provide leadership for the university’s major gifts and planned giving programs as well as serve as campaign director for an upcoming capital campaign. 

Since arriving at WVSU, Jones has been instrumental in the launch of the university’s Board of Visitors, implementing Advisory Boards for the four academic colleges and land-grant programs, and is leading a fundraising appeal for the Marching Swarm marching band and a matching funds appeal for the renovation project at Dickerson Stadium. Also under his leadership, Jones has played a key role in the development of 35 new partnerships and securing more than $3 million of services and benefits to better serve WVSU students and enhance programs. 

Prior to joining WVSU, he served as the Collegiate & Sports Sales Manager at Sheraton Raleigh Hotel. 
Jones earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management with a minor in business administration and sociology from North Carolina State University. Upon graduating, Jones began his career as the operations manager at the Critical Care Unit at Duke University Hospital, Duke Medicine Pavilion. 

Jones serves on the Board of Directors for Communities in Schools Wake County, North Carolina, and is also an active member of Rotary Club of Charleston. He was recently appointed to the Advisory Council for the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club of Charleston, effective January 2023. Last spring, Jones completed the FBI Charleston Citizens Academy 2022. He also volunteers his time to speak at numerous events to motivate and inspire students from various grade levels and backgrounds.
