The West Virginia State University Presidential Scholarship honors students who demonstrate leadership and academic determination. Recipients are recognized as leaders with a record of academic achievement, a resolute commitment to continued education, with a history of accomplishment and leadership in co-curricular activities, and possess inspiring personal qualities which have made a significant and positive difference in their endeavors toward college completion.
Requirements
The WVSU Presidential Scholarship program awards # of high school graduates to attend West Virginia State University waiving the difference in tuition and fees for admitted students.
Annual amounts waive tuition and fees for the fall and spring academic term. If you are a non-resident awarded a Presidential Scholarship, students qualify for in-state tuition waiver. All awards are guaranteed for students admitted by April 15th; admission after this date is limited only by the availability. Recipients must complete at least 10 hours of community service throughout the academic year as defined through the WVSU Office of Student Life and Engagement.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants must be enrolled as full-time students
- The waiver may be adjusted based on receipt of other tuition awards
- Waiver amounts are in any amount up to tuition and fees
- Waivers may not be issued via refund or pay for any expense
- Satisfy West Virginia residency requirements as described in West Virginia State University’s residency policy and enroll on a degree-seeking basis
- Earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Complete the FAFSA by annual, and accept all appropriate forms of financial aid for which you are eligible, except for loans
- Have no felony convictions pending upon application or while matriculating at WVSU
- Maintain full-time enrollment status and complete 15 or more credit hours during the regular academic calendar
- All courses taken to meet scholarship requirements have to be offered at WVSU.
WVSU Presidential Scholarships are renewable for up to eight (8) consecutive semesters or completion of a Bachelor’s degree with adherence of the eligibility requirements toward the completion of the Bachelor’s degree.
