A student must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for federal student aid. The U. S. Department of Education uses the information from the FAFSA to determine eligibility for federal funds. For West Virginia residents, the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission also uses the information from the FAFSA to determine eligibility for state funds. The West Virginia State University Office of Student Financial Aid reviews this information to complete Financial Aid Awards to students.
