Executive Summary
The primary purpose of the Self-Study Report is to apply for continued accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools by presenting patterns of evidence that demonstrate West Virginia State University (WVSU) properly meets the five criteria for accreditation outlined by the HLC. The Executive Summary provides an overview of the major findings and conclusions presented in the Self-Study Report. The Steering Committee framed the Self-Study Report based on thorough review of a dozen successful self-study best practices from higher education institutions in the HLC region.
Welcome to West Virginia State University’s reaffirmation of accreditation resource room.
West Virginia State University (WVSU) last hosted a site team visit from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in 2005 for the reaffirmation of the University’s accreditation. At that time, West Virginia State University met all criteria for reaffirmation, and the Institution’s accreditation was extended for the maximum period of 10 years by the Higher Learning Commission one of the six regional accrediting agencies for U.S. colleges and universities at the institutional level.
The West Virginia State University 2014-15 Self-Study report represents an extraordinary effort by the University to capture the successes, growth, challenges and transformation of the campus over the past 10 years and has been written by those who have devoted their time and talent on a daily basis to the fulfillment of the University’s unique mission. From inception, the Self-Study Team has engaged with the broader campus faculty and staff population to comprehensively and objectively evaluate and assess the University based on five criteria, as set forth by the Higher Learning Commission. The result of these dialogues has been an honest depiction of how the mission is carried out across the many facets of campus life, how we strive to continually improve our work in the never-ending pursuit of continuous improvement, and how we seek more effective ways to serve our constituents.
