Every student’s journey is unique, and your academic plan should reflect your individual goals. Our academic advisors are here to help you explore your academic interests, develop a personalized plan for success, and stay on track toward graduation.
Through one-on-one advising, we assist students with selecting courses, understanding degree requirements, creating semester-by-semester academic plans, and navigating university policies and procedures. We also connect students with campus resources and support services that promote academic achievement, personal growth, and career readiness.
Our goal is to empower students to make informed decisions, overcome challenges, and take ownership of their educational journey while building the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed for success at West Virginia State University and beyond..

Students We Advise
The Office of Student Success provides academic advising for:
- First-Time Freshmen
- Freshmen with Prior Credit who have earned fewer than 30 credit hours
- Transfer students who have earned fewer than 30 credit hours
- Returning students who have earned fewer than 30 credit hours
- Students exploring majors or seeking guidance on academic planning
Our advisors are committed to helping students build a strong academic foundation through personalized guidance, educational planning, and connections to the resources needed for success. If your assigned advisor is a faculty member, our office remains available to answer questions and connect you with the appropriate campus resources whenever you need assistance.
