Every spring, WVSU Cares Day brings together Yellow Jacket students, faculty, staff and alumni for a one-of-a-kind service opportunity. Project sites are around the community of Institute, and in Kanawha and Putnam counties. The projects may include outdoor clean-up, working with youth, literacy education, serving meals, office work, and a variety of other worthwhile endeavors.
In 2026, Cares Day will take place on Friday, April 17.

Volunteers are an integral part of the success of this event as they build relationships and help their fellow Yellow Jackets get connected to community service. Community service can be a rewarding undertaking for anyone, and the WVSU Cares Day will include many fun, hands-on activities that motivate and involve volunteers while offering a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie.
WVSU Cares Day is a great opportunity for WVSU students to learn about local organizations and agencies and get their hands dirty by volunteering.
