The Board of Governors is the principal policy-making and advisory body on all matters relating to, and affecting the university’s mission. In fulfillment of its fiduciary responsibility its members work with the President to approve policies, strategic goals and resources for programs and services.

The West Virginia State University Board of Governors (BOG) was created by the West Virginia Legislature as its governing body (§18B-2A-1). Consisting of nine members appointed by the Governor of West Virginia and three elected representatives by students, faculty, and staff, the BOG sets the annual budget and determines policies for operation and control of the University. Among the powers given, is the power to appoint a President, and delegates broad authority to the President to operate the University.

2025-2026 MEETING DATES

The following meeting dates for AY 2025-2026 were approved by the West Virginia State University Board of Governors at its June 12, 2025, meeting. Meetings are typically scheduled in the Grand Hall of the Erickson Alumni Center.

Consistent with West Virginia State University Board Governors (BOG) Policy #1, this message serves as notice that the BOG Policy listed below is now posted for the required 30-day public comment period.
The public comment period begins today, March 5, 2026, and ends on April 6, 2026. Please e-mail any comments or suggestions to agreementreview@wvstateu.edu or send by mail to the Office of Legal Affairs, 130 Ferrell Hall, P.O. Box 100, Institute, WV 25112 by the aforementioned deadline.
