June 26, 2026

INSTITUTE, W.Va.— Multiple West Virginia State University (WVSU) Extension Service marketing projects have won awards from the Association for Communication Excellence (ACE) in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Life and Human Sciences, the national association for communications professionals working within the Cooperative Extension System. Two Silver Awards and a Bronze Award were presented to projects promoting the organization’s outreach initiatives.

“We are thrilled that our communications team is being acknowledged at the national level for their work,” said Dr. Ami Smith, associate provost and dean and director of Agricultural Research and Extension. “These awards are a testament to the quality marketing and communications work being produced here at State.”

An exhibit created to commemorate the 135th anniversary of the Second Morrill Act of 1890, the congressional act that established the 1890 Land-grant University System, received a Silver Award for Graphic Design; a feature story focusing on WVSU’s Healthy Grandfamilies program received a Silver Award for Writing for the Web; and a 2026 wall calendar featuring 4-H family activities received a Bronze Award for Popular Publications.

The awards were presented as part of the ACE Critique and Awards Program, an annual event that provides professional critiques and recognizes exceptional work in the field of communication. The conference draws communication professionals from across the United States and around the world.

ACE is an international association of professionals practicing in all areas of communication, with members representing public and land-grant universities, government agencies, corporations, nonprofits and international research centers. ACE members include writers, editors, graphic designers, webmasters, video producers, photographers, researchers and more.

The awards were presented this month at the 2026 ACE Conference in Billings, Montana.
