INSTITUTE, W.Va. — The Maier Foundation has given $150,000 to West Virginia State University (WVSU) to support scholarship funding for students at the university.
The grant was announced today as part of the university’s Day of Giving and Founders Day celebrations.
Part of the grant, $50,000, will be used for direct scholarship support for students from West Virginia attending WVSU during the 2026-2027 academic year, while the bulk of the grant, $100,000, will further endow the existing Allan L. McVey Scholarship Fund.
“I want to thank the Maier Foundation for its generous gift of $150,000. This transformational investment affirms a shared commitment to educational excellence and student success,” said WVSU President Ericke S. Cage. “Their support will help create meaningful opportunities for our students, strengthen our academic programs, and help ensure that WVSU continues to serve as a powerful engine of opportunity for our community and beyond.”
The Allan L. McVey Scholarship Fund was established in 2013 and provides financial assistance for West Virginia students attending the university. It is named in honor of WVSU alum Allan McVey, who currently serves as West Virginia Insurance Commissioner.
“The Maier Foundation’s primary mission is to support higher education for West Virginia students,” said Brad Rowe, Chairman of the Maier Foundation. “Our board was excited to fund need-based scholarships to support talented students at WVSU. This grant will remove financial barriers for students, allowing them to focus on their studies.”
