INSTITUTE, W.Va. — West Virginia State University (WVSU) has received a $17,000 gift for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) from the Midwestern Region of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
This award demonstrates the fraternity’s commitment to strengthening HBCUs in the midwestern region.
“We are extremely grateful for this gift from the Midwestern Region of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and for their dedication to uplifting and supporting historically black colleges and universities,” said WVSU President Ericke S. Cage. “This generous contribution will help strengthen our programs and expand opportunities that directly benefit our students.”
In making the gift to WVSU, the fraternity said, the members of Alpha Phi Alpha in the Midwestern Region are dedicated to supporting the life-changing work happening on HBCU campuses, especially as they continue to teach, motivate, and lift the next generation of leaders.
“West Virginia State University and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. have a long standing relationship with one another, that has continued to stand the test of time,” said Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Midwestern Regional Vice President Franklin Stacy, Jr. “It was an honor and a privilege to choose a university whose core values are in direct line with our mission statement. We look forward to strengthening this relationship and trust that the gift will be used to assist with the development of the students on this great campus.”
The Alpha Zeta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. became the first sanctioned fraternity chartered at West Virginia State University, established on December 23, 1921. Since its inception, the Alpha Zeta Chapter has dedicated itself to the aims of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., one of manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind.
The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African American men. It was founded on December 4, 1906, at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and is headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland. For more information visit https://apa1906.net.
