West Virginia State University Alumna and Board Member Tracy McKibben Donates $250,000 to Support Students and the University’s Mission

September 18, 2025

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University (WVSU) has announced a $250,000 gift from distinguished alumna and Board of Governors member Tracy McKibben, a 1991 graduate of the university.

The transformational gift will be divided evenly between unrestricted support for the university and scholarships for students.

“Tracy McKibben represents the very best of West Virginia State University. This extraordinary gift is a testament to the enduring power of a West Virginia State University education,” said WVSU President Ericke S. Cage. “Her success demonstrates what is possible when talent meets opportunity, and her generosity ensures that more students will be able to pursue their dreams at State.”

A native of Georgia, McKibben attended WVSU on a Presidential Scholarship and credits the university with shaping the trajectory of her life and career. After earning her undergraduate degree at WVSU, she went on to graduate from Harvard Law School. Her career includes a White House appointment as Director of European Economic Affairs and European Union Relations for the National Security Council, where she advised on U.S. policy toward Europe and the European Union.

In 2010, McKibben founded MAC Energy Advisors, LLC, a consulting and investment company that assists clients with renewable energy and clean technology investments. Today, she leads the firm from New York City and remains deeply committed to higher education and advancing opportunities for future generations of students.

“West Virginia State opened doors for me, and I want to ensure that today’s students have the same kind of opportunities I was given,” McKibben said. “By designating part of my gift for scholarships, I hope to support students who, like me, came to State with dreams and found a place that believed in them.”

Half of McKibben’s gift will provide critical unrestricted support, allowing the university to meet its greatest needs and pursue strategic initiatives that strengthen WVSU’s mission. The other half will fund scholarships that directly assist students, ensuring affordability and access to a world-class education.

McKibben currently serves on the WVSU Board of Governors, continuing her strong connection to her alma mater while helping guide the university’s future.

“Tracy McKibben is a shining example of the kind of leader WVSU graduates become—innovative, accomplished, and deeply dedicated to giving back,” said Trey Jones, WVSU Vice President of Advancement and President of the WVSU Foundation. “Her generosity will have a lasting impact on our students and our institution, reinforcing her legacy as both a graduate and a leader of West Virginia State University.”
