INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The West Virginia State University (WVSU) Cultural Activities Committee is hosting a Fireside Chat with Kanawha County Delegate Kayla Young on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the Erickson Alumni Center.
The event is free and open to all students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community. It will be moderated by Dr. LeighAnn Davidson, chair of the WVSU Faculty Senate and assistant professor of criminal justice.
Young, D-Kanawha, serves the 56th Delegate District and also serves as minority leader pro tempore in the West Virginia House of Delegates.
A native of her district, Young graduated from George Washington High School, and went on to West Virginia University.
She grew up in a family of coal miners and teachers, learning the value of a hard day’s work and the importance of education for all. She’s always had a love of community, translating that into starting several small businesses and a non-profit focused on giving back.
Today, Young lives in South Charleston with her husband Troy, their children Milo and Zella, and their foster-fail pup Delilah.
The Fireside Chat is expected to last about one hour. Refreshments will follow.
