West Virginia State University Day of Giving Challenge set for March 18-19

March 10, 2025

INSTITUTE, W.Va. — West Virginia State University’s (WVSU) annual Day of Giving Challenge will take place over a 24-hour period starting at noon on Tuesday, March 18, and continuing through noon on Wednesday, March 19, with a goal of raising $500,000 to support student success.

The theme for this year’s challenge is “Step Up for Future State.” In addition to the goal of raising $500,000 the university also has a participation goal of 250 people giving in support of the Day of Giving Challenge.

“Our annual Day of Giving is an important day for West Virginia State University  as all funds raised go toward supporting our important work of ensuring our student’s success through access, affordability and career readiness,” said WVSU President Ericke S. Cage. “The generous support of our donors creates opportunities for students to pursue their dreams of a college education, and enables the university to continue to serve the state and region in new and extraordinary ways for years to come.”

The university and the WVSU Foundation host the annual Day of Giving Challenge to support scholarships as well as student activities such as athletics and special projects including the Presidential Scholarship and to support Student Affairs initiatives such as the Student Life Enhancement Fund and the Dr. Angie Turner King Memorial Scholarship.

The day will also feature the opportunity to donate to each of the four colleges at the university, the College of Arts and Humanities, the College of Business and Social Sciences, the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and the College of Professional Studies.

In addition, this year’s Day of Giving Challenge features a Senior Class Campaign. Graduating WVSU seniors who make donations of $25 or more to support the WVSU Student Emergency Fund will receive a special philanthropy cord that can be worn at the university’s spring commencement in May.

During the past year more than half of all WVSU students received scholarships, loans and grant support. Without these financial resources many students would not be able to continue their education.

A special Day of Giving donation website will open on March 18 at https://dayofgiving.wvstateu.edu.  Those interested in giving in advance may do so now at https://connect.wvstateu.edu/foundation/give-now.
