INSTITUTE, W.Va. –- West Virginia State University (WVSU) will host a holiday concert featuring performances from WVSU students and community members, a reading from WVSU President Ericke S. Cage, and an audience Christmas carol sing-along.
“Sounds of the Season: A Festive Holiday Celebration” is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, in the Fannin S. Belcher Theatre of WVSU’s Davis Fine Arts Center (building No. 8 on the campus map). Admission is free for the event and there will be a canned food drive collection at the door.
“Come enjoy a nostalgic evening of holiday music favorites and familiar sounds of the season with over 100-plus musicians from our music department and greater Charleston community here at West Virginia State University,” said Josh O’Dell, director of choral activities and professor of music at WVSU.
The concert will feature performances from the West Virginia State Philharmonic Orchestra, St. Mark’s United Methodist Church Steel Drum Ensemble, The Philharmonics Show Band, WVSU Choral Union and Concert Choir, and Santa Cruz Band.
In addition, WVSU President Ericke S. Cage will read from “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Music and performances will include Christmas classics like “Do You Hear What I Hear?” “What Child is This?” and “Carol of the Bells,” as well as songs from Kool & the Gang, Stevie Wonder and Earth, Wind & Fire. Audience members will have a chance to participate in a Christmas carol sing-along with choir members.
The Davis Fine Arts Center art gallery will also be open during the event, showcasing artwork created by WVSU students.
