West Virginia State University (WVSU) offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees through its four colleges. Degrees are awarded in 23 undergraduate programs in the arts, sciences, business, education and professional studies. Our students enjoy lots of academic options, including 28 minors, an Honors Program, and various research and internship opportunities. Arts &
Humanities

The College of Arts and Humanities is dedicated to the ideals of a liberal arts education and serves as the intellectual core of the University, offering disciplinary study in five undergraduate departments (i.e., Art, Communications, English, Modern Foreign Languages, and Music) and one graduate program in Media Studies, as well as general education courses to all undergraduate students in the areas of Fine Arts, Speech Communication, Literature, International Perspectives, and Composition.

Business &
Social Sciences

The College’s unique combination of Business and Social Science disciplines sets us apart and enables us to enhance student marketability and career opportunities by developing a broader set of capabilities, skills and competencies required to succeed in today’s world. Students can study business and social science disciplines and also pursue flexible combinations to enrich their educational experience.

Natural Sciences & Mathematics

The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics has four academic departments: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science, and Physics. Its faculty and staff are committed to delivering quality undergraduate programs in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering (Civil and Chemical emphasis), and Mathematics; graduate programs in Biotechnology and Computer Science; and general education courses in the areas of Mathematics and Natural Sciences to all the University students.

Professional
Studies

Rich in tradition, the College of Professional Studies is organized around some of the University’s earliest developed programs. Students can choose from academic programs in EducationHealth and Human Performance, NursingSocial Work and Criminal Justice. In addition, the College houses Military Science/ROTC as an elective course of study specializing in management, leadership, and life skills.
