Justin McAllister Named Senior Vice President for Strategic Finance, Operations and Chief Innovation Officer for West Virginia State University

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – Justin McAllister has been named West Virginia State University’s (WVSU) Senior Vice President for Strategic Finance, Operations and Chief Innovation Officer by WVSU President Ericke S. Cage. The appointment is effective immediately.
In this new role, McAllister will serve as a strategic thought partner and action officer for President Cage with direct responsibility for advancing the president’s vision and priorities related to enterprise wide transformational change.
“I am confident that Justin will play a pivotal role in helping to lead the university into a new era of growth and fiscal sustainability,” President Cage said. “As I have often said, higher education must adapt in order to continue to be relevant in today’s highly volatile marketplace and Justin’s background and professional experience make him perfect for this new role.”
McAllister’s primary focus areas will be optimizing the university’s budget, transforming the university’s business practices, and promoting revenue growth and diversification. In addition, McAllister will also partner with the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs to help advance the university’s recruitment and retention strategy. He will continue to serve as the university’s Chief Financial Officer overseeing the day-to-day business operations of WVSU.
McAllister joined WVSU in 2021 as the Assistant Vice President for Business and Finance before being named Vice President for Business and Finance in June 2022.
Prior to joining WVSU, McAllister was the Chief Financial Officer for the West Virginia Office of Technology from 2013 to 2021. As CFO, McAllister developed and implemented best practices to ensure financial stability, and advised and collaborated with state executives to guide and plan for the financial future of the State’s Central IT Organization.
McAllister has a bachelor’s of science degree in accounting and business administration and a master’s of forensic accounting both from the University of Charleston.
