INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University’s (WVSU) Early Enrollment Program is kicking off a series of six Welcome Days for Early Enrollment students to visit WVSU’s campus. The Welcome Days will be September 12, 14, 16, 19, 21, and 23.
During the Early Enrollment Welcome Days, students will be able to take a campus tour, get their college ID, listen in on a student panel, view a tutorial on how to access WVSU’s online platform, and have lunch on campus.
Early Enrollment students are students taking college classes through WVSU. WVSU’s Early Enrollment Program is active in seven counties across the state and the university partners with 25 high schools. During the 2021-22 academic year, WVSU served 2,415 students through the program, which is more than any other early enrollment program offered by West Virginia colleges and universities.
“The Early Enrollment Program is a great opportunity for our high school students as they are able to take college courses, while in high school, at a reduced rate of $25 per credit hour,” said Katie Bentley, WVSU Director of Academic Educational Outreach. “This makes college more affordable for them currently, and in the future as well because the students have the opportunity to get a lot of their general education courses completed before they even apply to college as a first-time freshman.”
Bentley said students who take six credit hours of Early Enrollment courses and receive a “C” grade or better in those courses are eligible for a new waiver when they attend WVSU.
“We’re extremely happy to be able to offer the WVSU Early Scholars Waiver,” Bentley said. “The waiver is worth $1,000 over the span of four years.”
WVSU’s Early Enrollment Program is accredited by The National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) which works to ensure that college courses offered by high school teachers are as rigorous as courses offered on the college campus. WVSU is the only NACEP accredited program in the state of West Virginia.
