Contact: Jack Bailey (304) 766-4109 jbaile19@wvstateu.edu INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University (WVSU) Extension Service, in partnership with Capitol Conservation District, will host a free workshop on fruit tree pruning and rain barrels Saturday, June 19, from 9 a.m. to noon at the East End Community Park in Charleston.
“We’re excited to work with Capitol Conservation District on this dual-topic workshop,” said WVSU Extension Agent Liz Moss. “People interested in both tree pruning and how to setup and manage rain barrels will be able to learn through hands-on instruction.”
WVSU extension agents will demonstrate how to train young fruit trees for good structure and how to construct rain barrels. Pruning tools and a rain barrel construction kit will be provided.
Participants desiring to construct a full rain barrel during the workshop should bring their own industrial or commercial-grade trash can or barrel with accompanying lid. A limited number of barrels will be available for purchase at the workshop.
Participants should dress for the weather and bring their own gardening/work gloves.

The workshop will take place at the East End Community Park, located at 1564 Dixie Street in Charleston. Parking is available in the gravel lot on the left, at the end of Nancy Street.
