The organization is selling oak tree seedlings grown from the acorns of trees formerly located on the university’s Institute, West Virginia, campus.
“Last spring, when several of our campus oaks had to be removed due to oak wilt, WVSU Extension Service collected acorns from the trees in an effort to preserve some of the history of our beautiful campus,” said Extension Agent Liz Moss. “Those acorns have now sprouted into seedlings and are ready to be planted, which means you can purchase and plant a part of State history.”
Seedlings smaller than 12″ are $5, and larger seedlings are $10. Each seedling comes with a species profile and instructions for proper planting.
Approximately 80 pin, northern red, and willow oak seedlings are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Buyers must arrange with Moss to pick up the seedlings on campus.

Funds raised through the sale of the seedlings will support WVSU Extension Service’s agriculture and natural resource education program efforts.
