Contact: Jack Bailey (304) 766-4109 jbaile19@wvstateu.edu INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University (WVSU) Extension Service will host a free hybrid workshop on proper tree pruning techniques Friday, November 13, and Saturday, November 14. A virtual portion, held via Zoom, will cover basic biology concepts relating to pruning cuts and methods, to be followed by an outdoor, onsite demonstration of proper pruning practices.
“This introductory course in tree pruning is appropriate for all skill levels, from the homeowner to the city worker to the expert gardener,” said WVSU Extension Agent Liz Moss. “We will cover tree biology and structure related to pruning, why we make the cuts we do, and the techniques and tools to use for proper cutting.”
Moss will host the lecture portion of the workshop via Zoom Friday, November 13, at 11 a.m. That will be followed by an in-person, outdoor demonstration and practice at one of the following locations and dates. Those participating in the hands-on portion will receive a free pair of hand pruners and protective glasses, and are asked to bring their own work gloves. Proper social distancing measures will be followed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and face coverings are required.
