West Virginia State University Extension Service to Host Information Session on Weather Data Collection May 14

Contact: Jack Bailey (304) 766-4109 jbaile19@wvstateu.edu INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University (WVSU) Extension Service will host an information session about its Climate Hub West Virginia Weather Data Collection program Thursday, May 14, at 4 p.m. The free session will be hosted virtually via Zoom.
Participants will learn about the mission and resources available from the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Northeast Climate Hub and will also learn how to collect weather data from their county. The goal of the project is to have landowners from each of West Virginia’s 55 counties participating in data collection. Interested landowners will receive a free weather station for data collection.
“This information session is ideal for people with an interest in weather and climate change,” said WVSU Extension Agent Liz Moss. “If a personal weather station with forecasting abilities and smartphone compatibility would be a useful addition to a person’s farming operation, orchard or even home garden pursuits, we encourage them to join us.”
The basic requirements for installation of the weather station, as well as its various features, will be covered. Open discussion and a question and answer period will be central to this session, which will be conducted in conjunction with the USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station.
