Celebration to Honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Monday in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. The Martin Luther King Jr. State Holiday Commission will host the annual commemoration and celebration of the life of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 15, 2018. This year’s theme is: “The Color of Unity.”

West Virginia State University Board of Governor’s member Katherine “Kitty” Dooley will deliver the keynote address of the celebration. Dooley is a practicing attorney and the principal of The Dooley Law Firm, P.L.L.C in Charleston. The 2018 celebration will take place at Asbury United Methodist Church, 501 Elizabeth Street, in Charleston with an ecumenical service from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by a march to the bell at the State Capitol Complex and a Bell Ringing Ceremony at 12:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to join us as we celebrate the life of Dr. King and the countless other individuals who made and are still making significant sacrifices and strides for us to enjoy the freedoms that we have.
A reception will follow immediately at the West Virginia Culture Center. The event is free and open to the public.
