INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The West Virginia State University (WVSU) College of Business and Social Sciences will host its fall convocation, “Being Jewish in Nazi Germany: One Woman’s Personal Story,” beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5.
The convocation will be held in 122 Wallace Hall on the University’s Institute campus and will feature speaker Hedy Fraenkel Poppelsdorf, who will share her story of growing up in Germany when Adolf Hitler came to power.
“Our speaker has an important and relevant message to share about the horrors of Nazism,” said WVSU History Professor Billy Joe Peyton. “In fact, this may be the last opportunity for our students to hear the personal story of someone who survived being Jewish in Nazi Germany.”
Poppelsdorf endured Nazi oppression before being sent to England by her parents, who later died in a concentration camp during World War II.
The event is free and open to the public.
