INSTITUTE, W.Va. — Dr. Anthony L. Jenkins, president of West Virginia State University, has been selected to serve as a representative to the NCAA Division II Presidents Council. Jenkins began serving a four-year term on the organization’s highest governing body on January 21, 2017, when the Division II business session at the NCAA Convention ended.
The members of the Presidents Council are charged with deciding on the strategic direction for Division II in all areas including financial affairs and championship administration. It is also the primary sponsor of legislative proposals at the NCAA Convention, and the chair of the Council moderates the Division II Business Session at the annual Convention.
“President Jenkins will be an outstanding addition to the Presidents Council,” WVSU Athletic Director Nate Burton said. “In the time he has been at WVSU, he has shown a commitment to academics, community service, and athletics.”
The Council consists of 16 members, all of whom serve as presidents or chancellors at their respective Division II institutions.
“I’m truly honored to have been appointed to the NCAA Division II President’s Council,” said Jenkins. “I look forward to working with the more than 300 NCAA colleges and universities within Division II to provide our student-athletes the support and guidance required to excel at their respective sport but, more importantly, in the classroom.”
He will be representing Region 3 which includes the Mountain East Conference, of which West Virginia State University is a member.
