INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The West Virginia State University (WVSU) Department of Education will have a special celebration on Thursday, April 14, in honor of the department’s reaffirmation of accreditation through the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
The celebration will begin at 12:30 inside the James C. Wilson University Union and will include remarks from WVSU President Dr. Brian O. Hemphill, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Kumara L. Jayasuriya, College of Professional Studies Dean Dr. J. Paige Carney, and Department of Education Chair Patricia Wilson.
Music will be provided for the celebration by the WVSU Jazz Ensemble.
The event is free and open to all WVSU students, faculty, staff, alumni and the general public.
WVSU has had continued accreditation through NCATE since 1963, and was notified last fall that its accreditation had been reaffirmed through 2021.
Founded in 1954, NCATE is recognized by the United States Department of Education as a specialized accrediting body for schools, colleges and Departments of Education.
NCATE and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) have consolidated and are now transitioning into the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). For more information visit, .
