WVSU President Brian O. Hemphill to Deliver State of the University Address Oct. 8

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University (WVSU) President Brian O. Hemphill will deliver his fourth annual State of the University address at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, in the P. Ahmed Williams Auditorium, located on the second floor of Ferrell Hall.
The address is open to WVSU students, faculty, staff and alumni, as well as community leaders and members.
“This is an exciting time, as we prepare to celebrate 125 years of West Virginia State – an institution with a rich, storied history that has served with enduring purpose and unwavering drive, resulting in a profound impact,” said President Hemphill. “During this academic year, the State family has a unique opportunity to reflect upon the great achievements of our past, while preparing for our bold, promising future.”
President Hemphill will discuss student, faculty and staff accomplishments during the past year, and the University’s reaffirmation of accreditation visit from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools that occurred in April 2015.
Hemphill will also discuss new programs being offered at the University this fall including a Bachelor of Fine Arts in music performance, as well as the new Masters of Public Administration degree.
Finally, he is expected to talk about the upcoming 125-year celebration in 2016 of West Virginia State University’s founding as the second land-grant institution in the state of West Virginia.
