INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (WVSO) will be performing at West Virginia State University (WVSU) on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the school’s Davis Fine Arts Building.
The performance is free and open to the public.
“This fall marks the fifth year in a wonderful collaboration between WVSU and the WVSO,” said Dr. Scott Woodard, dean of the College of Arts and Humanities at WVSU. “Bringing this wonderful body of musicians to our Institute campus provides a cultural experience for our students which is second to none. I encourage all students, faculty and staff to take advantage of this opportunity to see a world-class orchestra perform on our stage and to become wrapped up in the excitement of classical music.”
WVSO Artistic Director and Conductor Grant Cooper has chosen the following works to be performed: Mozart’s “Overture to Lucio Silla,” with Woodard guest conducting; Mozart’s “Flute Concerto in D Major” featuring WVSU music instructor Lindsey Goodman as solo flute; and Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 7.”
In addition to Woodard and Goodman, other WVSU faculty involved in the evening’s performance are Robert Turizziani, David Porter, Cristian Fatu, Bernard Di Gregorio, Andrea Di Gregorio and Scott Christian.
While tickets are free, they must be reserved in advance by calling the WVSU College of Arts and Humanities at (304) 766-3196. Tickets can then be picked up at the box office in the Davis Fine Arts Building beginning at 6 p.m. the evening of the concert.
The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra is West Virginia’s premier performing arts organization, presenting classical, pops, educational and chamber-music concerts annually throughout the Mountain State. Currently in its 77th season, the WVSO is a proud member of the community and enriches the region by providing affordable, high-quality concerts, collaborations with West Virginia arts organizations and a nationally award-winning education program.
