INSTITUTE, W.Va. – Learn the techniques of hydroponic and aeroponic plant production at a free workshop hosted by West Virginia State University Extension Service Friday, April 10, from 10 a.m. to noon at KISRA Paradise Farms in Dunbar.
In traditional agricultural production, soil is utilized as the growing medium. In hydroponic production, a nutrient solution provides the nutrition plants require and allows for a larger quantity of plants to be grown in a smaller space. Participants will get hands-on education on nutrient film technique and experience with aeroponic and hydroponic growing systems.
“We want participants to learn the basics of hydroponics, as well as the benefits,” said Melissa Stewart, Assistant Program Director, Community and Agricultural Resource Development for the WVSU Extension Service. “From saving space to reducing weeds, insects, disease and pesticides, we’ll cover all areas using a variety of production systems.”
