INSTITUTE, W.Va. – West Virginia State University’s (WVSU) Creators Program will host West Virginia Poet Laureate Marc Harshman Tuesday, March 10, at 7:15 p.m. at the WVSU Economic Development Center (EDC) in Charleston. Harshman will read his work and discuss his creative writing and storytelling processes in the free “Creators Talk” event.
“We are thrilled to host Marc during this special Creators Talk,” said Danny Boyd, WVSU communications professor and artist in residence at the EDC. “We will prevail upon the state’s poet laureate to read from his most recent work, and invite him to reflect upon his appointment and the place of poetry in the lives of West Virginians and all Americans.”
Harshman was appointed the West Virginia Poet Laureate in 2012. He has published several children’s books and a full-length collection of poetry, as well as four poetry chapbooks and several pieces in anthologies and periodicals. His work has been anthologized by Kent State University, University of Iowa, University of Georgia and University of Arizona. His children’s book “The Storm” was named a Smithsonian Notable Book.
The WVSU English department is cohosting the Creators Talk. Space is limited, and registration is required. To register, visit www.wvsuedc.org and click on “The Creators Program” tab.
The WVSU EDC is located at 1506 Kanawha Blvd. W. in Charleston.
